Easy, authentic red salsa for tacos using 7 ingredients in only 3 EASY steps! So good, that it’s hard not spooning this zesty red salsa mix over your favorite Mexican dishes! Perfect for anyone wanting a go-to salsa recipe!
In a medium size stock pan, put the tomatillos, garlic cloves, onion, red chili peppers, cup of water, and salt to taste. Cover and boil over medium heat for 23-25 minutes until the peppers are softened.
Once the ingredients for the salsa are done boiling, remove the stems from the red chili peppers and tomatillos. See note below.
Transfer the boiled ingredients to a blender. If the mixture looks too thick, add a couple tablespoons of water. Add the cilantro and salt to taste and blend until smooth. Bring the salsa to room temperature before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
After the ingredients for the salsa are done boiling, I use a ladle to transfer the red chili peppers and the tomatillos to a cutting board so that I can cut the stems off. Do this step one by one, so you can preserve the juice without getting most of it on your cutting board.
After removing the stems from the red chili pepper, you can remove the seeds if you like. The easiest way to do this is to rub the BACKSIDE (as in not the sharp side) of the knife along the red chili pepper to scrape the seeds out. Remember, more seeds equal more spice!
This recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of salsa.
