Ingredients

  • 2 pounds shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 head of garlic peeled and minced
  • cup green onion chopped
  • ¼ cup Sprite
  • 1 tablespoon chili sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce plus more for seasoning
  • juice of ½ a lemon
  • ½ tablespoon honey
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • paprika optional
  • red chili flakes optional

Instructions

  • In a large saute pan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted add the Sprite, chili sesame oil, and hot sauce. Stir to combine. Once combined add the minced garlic and cook for 3 minutes until softened.
  • Add the shrimp to the saute pan and mix with the sauce. Cover the pan and simmer the shrimp for 2-3 minutes.
  • Uncover the pan and season with lemon juice, paprika, red chili flakes, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until the liquid is reduced. Add the honey and chopped green onion. Season with additional hot sauce if needed. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. Cooking time of the shrimp can vary depending how large the shrimp is. Watch it closely as once it starts to change to a reddish-orange color and slightly shrunken, its ready!
  2. Although the red chili flakes and paprika is listed as optional, it is strongly encouraged! Both these spices really bring out the sauce and adds another layer of spice. Season to preference. I like to add at least ½ a tablespoon of red chili flakes to the sauce!
  3. In this recipe, I used Tapatio hot sauce as it's not too spicy and can easily be adjusted depending on preference.
