Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork belly diced in large cubes
  • 1 bunch string beans cut 3-4 inches in length
  • 12 ounces broccoli florets
  • 5 cups spinach
  • 1 Chinese okra diced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 large tomato diced
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • juice from ½ a lemon
  • 1 Knorr Tamarind Soup Mix Packet
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 7 cups water
  • 1 habanero (optional) diced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large soup pot over medium heat, add the pork belly, onion, tomato, garlic, and water. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes until the pork belly starts to become tender.
  • Add the Knorr Tamarind Soup Mix Packet and mix. Toss in the broccoli, string beans, okra, and habanero (if using). Cover over medium heat for 15 minutes.
  • Add the spinach, juice from ½ a lemon, fish sauce, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook for another two minutes until the spinach has cooked. Add additional water if necessary to reach desired consistency. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. I used 5 cups of spinach in this Filipino sinigang recipe. Instead of measuring 5 cups, I took five handfuls as the spinach will shrink when cooked. Refer to Sam’s Pro Tips for this Filipino Sinigang Recipe with Pork Belly for additional time saving tips.
  2. If you would like to add even more flavor, you can do a half and half mixture of beer broth and water. However, I really don’t think you will need it as the soup will have all the flavor you need from the vegetables and soup mix.
